Concrete DIY or Hire Out?

So, let's get real for a minute. Pouring concrete is not exactly rocket science. Many people have done it on their own with good, and even excellent results. While there is definitely preparation and skill, tools and materials involved, it's not insurmountable. Between Google, Youtube, DIY manuals, and some hard work, you can save a lot of money. Plus, there's the pride of completing a project, admiration of family & friends, and good old fashioned physical labor. No biggie, right? Hmmm...

I'm not just pushing hiring a professional to get some money in my pocket, there are others reasons too. So first, let's consider some factors that will play into it all. (Read article here)

Concrete Costs

As of January of 2023, concrete has had an average cost of $110-$165/cubic yd., thus being more likeable than
your paver options, which can range from $4-$400/cubic ft.
That's a huge leap!
Pavers are not much easier to install as well. Both take a considerable amount of physical energy.

It's easy. Just make sure you have your wants ready to explain. Your design will make a huge impact on how we price and value
your project. Make sure to be clear on what you do NOT want and the price/budget you want to spend.
AN ONSITE QUOTE IS IMPERATIVE TO GETTING AN ACCURATE PRICE.

Concrete Slabs or Concrete Pavers?

Concrete pavers or stones, versus concrete slabs are another factor. They each have a distinctive look, different prices, different prepping, and take different amounts of time.

While the average concrete slab, with installation, runs around $6/square foot, but the thickness desired, or needed, will have an impact on that cost. Have a concrete patio with only people walking on it, versus a concrete driveway with vehicles driving or parked on it, definitely changes the equation.

With concrete pavers, including the installation, the average is $20/square foot. Pavers require more planning to get the design correct, and to allow for drainage and shifting of the individual bricks. However, from an aesthetic viewpoint, there are many more options.

Also, keep in mind that some areas around your home or business may need more prepping of the ground than others. Lots of rocks or boulders? There would be costs for heavy equipment to be brought in. Maybe you have a sloping portion of the lawn. If so, drainage of rain water will be a factor, so leveling or grading crews should be considered. And then, there's permits through the city/county. Ugh. And don't forget designs or finishes applied to the top: epoxy, stamping, painting, polishing, and more. And then, unfortunately, there's broken supplies. Not every single piece of material arrives in perfect shape. While you would probably demand a replacement or refund, those things add up until you get your money back.
